The foundation arm of Falls Church-based Northrop Grumman is sending teachers and students from across the United States to space camp, including 17 from Virginia schools. The sponsorship is meant to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center Space Camp is from July 27 to Aug. 1 in Huntsville, Ala. Sponsored participants from Virginia are from O.W. Holmes Middle School in Alexandria, Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, Castlewood Elementary School in Castlewood, Hughes Middle School in Reston and King's Fork and John Yeates middle schools in Suffolk.

This year's sponsored space campers are 17 middle school teachers from eight states and 65 middle school students from 10 states and the District of Columbia. Two students and one teacher are from the United Kingdom.

This is the fifth year that Northrop Grumman, an aerospace and defense technology company based in Falls Church, has funded space camp sponsorship.
