Visit Fairfax, a tourism marketing organization, has launched “Historical Figures,” an interactive promotional campaign targeting smartphone users.
Posters featuring figures from American history, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin, will be positioned in high-traffic urban areas. When a portrait is scanned by a QR code reader, a video featuring the historical figure will appear on the user’s smartphone touring Fairfax County attractions.
“We believe this campaign reaches our key demographic of young, educated, digitally-savvy consumers. This really is an exceptional example of attention-getting guerilla marketing,” Barry Biggar, the president and CEO of Visit Fairfax, said in statement. “And the minute you see the QR code graphic over the historical portrait, it piques your interest. You’re compelled to find out what it’s all about.”
The campaign, which will run through the summer, will be launched on Independence Day in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., the primary feeder markets to Fairfax County.
