Reston-based defense contractor Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) announced Monday it has named Dorothy “Dee Dee” Helfenstein as its executive vice president and chief strategic growth officer — a newly created position at the company.

Helfenstein most recently was the executive vice president at McLean-based management consulting company Booz Allen Hamilton. Both SAIC and Booz Allen on Monday were named on the 2020 Fortune 1000 list, which ranks the 1,000 largest United States corporations by total revenue.

In her new role, Helfenstein will lead SAIC’s corporate strategy and growth initiatives and report directly to CEO Nazzic Keene.

Helfenstein earned her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and currently serves on the boards of Capital Partners for Education and The Vinetta Project. She is also on the board of advisers for Press Forward. Last year, she won Federal Computer Week’s Fed 100 Award, and is also the recipient of the 2017 Diversity Journal’s Women Worth Watching award and the 2018 Power Women of DC Tech award.

SAIC employs more than 25,000 people and has pro forma annual revenues of $7.1 billion.
