Virginia localities to receive nearly $155 million for transportation

      Localities across Virginia will receive nearly $155 million for transportation projects, Gov. Bob McDonnell’s office announced Friday.

Virginia will receive nearly $155 million in state matching funds, which advances nearly $560 million in transportation projects to improve roads, bridges, sidewalks, trails and traffic lights. The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved the funding through the state’s Revenue Sharing Program.

• Build new section of Jones Branch Drive in Fairfax County
• Widen Minnieville Road from two to four lanes from Spriggs Road to Dumfries Road in Prince William County
• Widen Centerville Turnpike from two to four lanes from Indian River Road to Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach
• Widen Courthouse Road from two to four lanes from Winding Creek Road to Cedar Lane in Stafford
• Citywide repaving in Richmond
• Widen Lee Highway from two to four lanes from Exit 5 to just east of Blevins Boulevard in Bristol
• Citywide bridge rehabilitation and repaving in Roanoke
• Repave several sections of unpaved roads in Culpeper County and rebuild various bridges in Charlottesville
• Widen Greenview Drive from two to four lanes from Hermitage Road to Eastern City Limits in Lynchburg
• Build a new section of Goose Creek Road in Augusta County
• Extend Hope Drive in Winchester

Localities apply for funding under the Revenue Sharing Program each year. The Virginia Department of Transportation recommends projects for funding and the CTB approves the final list of applicants and their projects.
