7:30 p.m. April 2 update: A woman in her 60s has died in the Portsmouth Health District, its first COVID-19 fatality. She had underlying health issues, according to local authorities. Her death, in addition to others reported after 5 p.m. Wednesday, will be included on the statewide update Friday at 9 a.m.
1 p.m. April 2 update: Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Henrico County reported a total of 16 deaths, including five over the past 24 hours, related to COVID-19. Also, after receiving results this morning from facility-wide testing assisted by the Henrico County Health Department, 92 residents of the long-term care center are confirmed positive, although not all are showing symptoms, the center’s administrator reports. A woman in her 40s has died from COVID-19, health department officials reported. This is the youngest known coronavirus-related death so far in Virginia. The woman lived in the Chesterfield Health District, which includes Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights and Powhatan County.

There are now 1,706 people with confirmed COVID-19 cases in Virginia, according to the Virginia Department of Health’s daily update Thursday. That’s an increase of 222 more confirmed cases since Wednesday.
Forty-one people statewide have died from causes related to the virus, although three more deaths — two in Henrico County and one in the city of Richmond reported by health officials there after 5 p.m. Wednesday — will likely be included in the Friday total.
The number of people tested is 17,589, and 246 people are hospitalized. Northern Virginia continues to have the most cases in the commonwealth, with 328 cases in Fairfax County, 128 cases in Arlington County, 121 cases in Loudoun County and 117 cases in Prince William County.
Globally, more than 952,000 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, with at least 48,320 deaths. The United States continues to have more cases than all other nations, with 216,722 confirmed cases and more than 5,100 deaths, as of April 2.
