Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell a tenth of a percentage point to 5.2 percent in April.
April’s drop was the second consecutive monthly decline in the commonwealth’s jobless rate.
The April 2013 rate represented a decline of seven tenths of a percentage point from the 5.9 percent rate in the same month in 2012.
After falling in February and March, the state labor force expanded by 1,896 workers in April.
Virginia’s seasonally adjusted rate in April was more than two percentage points below the national rate of 7.5 percent.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate takes into account seasonal fluctuations in the labor market.
