What is the biggest challenge facing your health-care clients? The biggest challenge for my clients is trying to do more with less. There is tremendous pressure to increase quality of care while reducing costs — all while operating in one of the most highly regulated industries in our country. It is a tough business, and I admire the dedication of those health-care providers who work hard to take care of us.

Has Medicaid expansion in Virginia had a significant effect on your clients?  It’s still a bit early to see the full effect of Medicaid expansion. But, it’s good for the commonwealth and for health-care providers. Expansion creates greater access to coverage for health care, which will result in better treatment outcomes and healthier communities. Significantly for hospitals, Medicaid expansion  helps with payment for emergency department visits — many of which went unpaid for patients who did not have (and could not afford) insurance coverage.
