Northern Virginia led Virginia’s metro areas with the lowest unemployment in December, 4.1 percent.
The region, part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan statistical area, was one of two regions in the state with a jobless rate of under 5 percent, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. The other was the Charlottesville MSA at 4.4 percent.
The Danville area had the highest jobless rate among the 11 Virginia MSAs at 7.6 percent.
Other jobless rates for December were:
Harrisonburg area: 5.1 percent.
Winchester area, 5.2 percent.
Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford area, 5.4 percent.
Roanoke area, 5.7 percent.
Hampton Roads, 5.9 percent.
Lynchburg area, 6 percent.
Richmond area, 6 percent.
Bristol area, 7 percent.
