Standard Calibrations Inc. (SCI), an instrumentation and controls company, is investing $9.6 million to consolidate its headquarters in Chesapeake. It anticipates creating 89 jobs.

SCI will build a 40,000-square-foot headquarters in the city. The expansion will include the consolidation of the company’s two existing facilities in Chesapeake, as well as the addition of a calibration lab and warehouse.

SCI was founded in 1989. The company’s mission is to provide customers with confidence that their tools, equipment and systems operate reliably and accurately.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Chesapeake to secure the investment. Gov. Ralph Northam approved a $250,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund for the project. SCI may be eligible to receive tax exemptions on state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

Virginia competed against North Carolina for the project.
