The Virginia Maritime Association announced Wednesday that its longtime vice president will become its next executive vice president.

David C. White will take over from Arthur M. Moye, Jr. as executive vice president of the VMA association and Hampton Roads Shipping Association on April 16.

“David has the experience and respect for the VMA’s 98-year history and the vision needed for the future. He is professional and informed, I do not believe a better choice could have been made for the leadership of the Virginia Maritime Association,” Scott Wheeler, president, VMA board of directors, said in a statement.

White joined the VMA as an administrator in 2003, and has served as vice president since 2008. White has produced the International Trade Symposium for 15 years.

“David was recognized early on as our imminent executive vice president. He is engaged in representing our association, bringing with him a positive outlook of where we are today and he will lead us through tomorrow’s challenges and considerations,” Raymond Newlon, Chairman of the VMA Board of Directors, said in a statement.

Moye has served as executive vice president since 2004. He will continue to serve the VMA through 2018 as the director of external affairs.

“[Moye] has worked tirelessly in every area to ensure the Port of Virginia would continue to grow and be successful for all stakeholders,” Roger Giesinger, President of the Hampton Roads Shipping Association, said in a statement.
