Construction has begun on The St. Paul’s Apartments, a $20 million, 126-unit community in downtown Norfolk.

The apartment site is located between Wood and Bute Streets. Miles Leon, Thomas Johnson III and Richard Counselman of S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. led a development team of several partners in putting together the venture.

The team includes nonprofit partner, ForKids Inc., the city of Norfolk, Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority, St. John’s A.M.E. Church, Virginia Housing Development Authority, AGM Financial Services, Wells Fargo and HUD.

On the design side, TS3 Architects and Details Interior Design have been retained among several other firms. Hoy Construction Co. is the general contractor.  According to S.L. Nusbaum, the development is expected to be ready by first quarter 2019, with apartment units ready for occupancy before that time.

This community will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes. Amenities include patios or balconies, a clubhouse/community center, swimming pool, playground, fitness center and a dog park.

S.L. Nusbaum manages more than 22,000 apartment units and has developed close to 50 communities throughout the mid-Atlantic.
