Virginia Commonwealth University has signed an agreement with MEDARVA Healthcare allowing VCU graduate medical students to receive part of their residency training at the company’s outpatient surgery center in Richmond.
Residents in eight medical programs will rotate through the MEDARVA Stony Point Surgery Center with VCU surgeons using the facility. The program is designed to provide residents with hands-on experience unlike what they might find in a hospital setting.
The programs approved under the agreement include: obstetrics and gynecology; ophthalmology; otolaryngology; physical medicine and rehabilitation; pediatric nephrology; orthopedic surgery; plastic surgery and general surgery.
With the VCU agreement, MEDARVA Stony Point becomes one of only a handful of teaching surgery centers in the U.S. to have partnerships with major medical schools.
In addition to the surgery center, MEDARVA Healthcare includes the MEDARVA Foundation — which supports scientific research, medical care and education programs in Central Virginia — the MEDARVA Physician Network and MEDARVA Medical Office Building in Goochland County.
