The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has leased 81,553 square feet of office space at the Bank of America Center in downtown Richmond.

According to CBRE/Richmond, which brokered the deal, the agency plans to occupy the space later this year. The DEQ will occupy four floors at the center, located at 1111 East Main Street.

Following this lease, the office building will be approximately 88 percent occupied. Other recent additions to the tenant roster include Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association, Haneberg Hurlbert PLC, and the Virginia Bar Association.

The Bank of America Center has been under new ownership since February 2016 when it was purchased in joint venture by District Bay Realty Advisors and developer Joe Ersek. The new owners recently completed a multimillion dollar exterior renovation to the building with many more interior and exterior cosmetic improvements planned for the future.

“At acquisition of this asset a year ago, we were very excited about having one of the best located properties in a rapidly improving downtown market,” Ersek said in a statement.  “We are now thrilled with the leasing activity as well as the great reception we've gotten on our facade upgrade. We are bullish on downtown and we expect the positive momentum in the market to continue.”

Malcolm Randolph and Scott Durham with CBRE|Richmond represent the ownership in marketing and leasing the Bank of America Center.
