Companies certified by the commonwealth’s Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program have hired 20,000 veterans since 2012.

The V3 program reached the 20,000 benchmark more 400 days ahead of schedule. The goal had been January 2018.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the hiring total during an event in Richmond at which 12 employers met with nearly 100 veterans to discuss job openings.

The event was connected to the Dominion Charity Classic,  a charitable golf tournament in the PGA Champions tour. The tournament will take place Friday through Sunday at the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond.

Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Virginia Veterans Services Foundation on behalf of the V3 program.

More than 700 Virginia employers have joined V3. As part of the certification process, employers set goals on hiring veterans and report their progress to the V3 program.
