The head of McLean-based Cassaday & Co. has been named the No. 1 financial adviser in Virginia by Barron’s.

Stephan Q. Cassaday is president of the McLean-based wealth management company, which oversees more than $1.7 billion in assets. Cassaday also was ranked No. 1 in the state by the magazine on its annual list of America’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in 2014.

Cassaday & Co. has been on the magazine’s list for eight consecutive years.

“ … I am very pleased to be included among this distinguished group,” Cassaday said in a statement. “This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible hard work and dedication of our employees as well as the confidence of our clients – for which I am grateful.”

Cassaday founded Cassaday & Co. in 1993 with the mission of providing independent and objective advice to investors based on their individual situations.  Today, the company has grown to nearly 40 employees, and it serves more than 1,400 households nationally.

The other Virginians who made the top five were: Paul Pagnato from HighTower in Reston (No. 2); Joseph Montgomery from Wells Fargo Advisors in Williamsburg (No. 3); Tristan Caudron, Wells Fargo Advisors in Alexandria (No. 4) and Jeffrey Grinspoon, High Tower in Vienna (No. 5).

To compile its list, Barron’s uses data from more than 4,000 of the nation’s advisers.  The list considers such criteria as assets under management, revenue produced by the firm, regulatory records, quality of the practice and philanthropic work.
