Mondelēz Global LLC announced plans Thursday to invest more than $40 million to expand its biscuit bakery in Henrico County. This investment will add a new manufacturing line for Ritz crackers and expand the facility by 38,000 square feet.

The bakery opened in 1973 and is one of the largest employers in Henrico with nearly 500 workers.  Nabisco crackers and cookies are manufactured at the facility including Wheat Thins and Premium crackers, Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies and Nilla wafers.

“The bakery in Henrico County is geographically well-situated to support our East Coast business, and this investment is part of our commitment to create a best-in-class integrated supply chain to support our business,” Cindy Waggoner, a company vice president said in a statement.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved a $100,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program for the project.

Mondelēz Global LLC is the U.S. operating company of Mondelēz International Inc. whose annual revenue totaled $35 billion last year.
