2026 Virginia Black Business Leaders Awards: SHANNON GIBSON-MOYE

Gibson-Moye started her career in hospitality as a front desk agent for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in Miami. She joined The Founders Inn and Spa in 2017 as a sales and marketing coordinator before pivoting to human resources.

A Norfolk native, Gibson-Moye has a master’s degree in organizational leadership with a concentration in human resource management from Regent University, where she’s currently pursuing a doctorate in strategic leadership.

MOST MEANINGFUL JOB: My most meaningful role has been serving as the human resources director at The Founders Inn and Spa. … HR is often seen as policy-driven, but for me, it is purpose-driven. I have the privilege of shaping workplace culture, protecting dignity, championing equity and creating environments where people feel valued, heard and empowered to grow. Being trusted with people’s livelihoods, dreams and well-being is a responsibility I never take lightly. In this role, I am not just managing systems — I am nurturing people, strengthening families and helping to build a workplace where leadership is rooted in compassion, accountability and transformation.

HOW I GIVE BACK: Giving back is woven into every part of my life and leadership. I serve my community by using my skills, platform and influence to create access, opportunity and empowerment for others. Through board service, nonprofit partnerships and community initiatives, I help support programs that address hunger, housing, women’s empowerment and workforce development. Equally important to me is investing in the next generation. I mentor young people in career readiness — helping them with résumés, interview skills, confidence and professional exposure. I also provide internship opportunities so they can gain real-world experience and see what’s possible for their future.
