2026 Virginia Black Business Leaders Awards: JUSTIN SAUNDERS

Since 2021, Saunders has served as vice president of membership and strategic growth at what is billed as the largest regional chamber of commerce in Virginia. In this role, he’s responsible for the organization’s growth strategy and membership efforts, including new member development, driving engagement and ensuring retention. Saunders also oversees five chamber divisions, ribbon cuttings, and several committees, programs and events.

Around Hampton Roads, Saunders can often be found celebrating local member businesses. Sometimes, that means holding a pair of comically oversized scissors for a ribbon-cutting. Other times, it means posing next to someone dressed as a pizza slice to honor a new restaurant location.

In early December, a business announcement involved traveling outside Hampton Roads: Saunders went to Richmond for Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s announcement that LS Cable & System plans to more than double its capital investment in Chesapeake with a $689 million copper and advanced materials manufacturing campus.

Saunders sits on numerous boards, including the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives and the Better Business Bureau of Greater Hampton Roads. Saunders earned a degree in business administration and communication from the University at Buffalo.

WHY I CHOSE MY PROFESSION: I am most fulfilled when I am able to serve others by applying my experience, perspective and leadership. The intersection of business and people is where I thrive, and this field allows me to operate in that space with purpose and impact.
