A historic former bank building in downtown Fredericksburg is for sale.
The 195-year-old, federal-style National Bank Building at 900 Princess Anne St. will be sold through a sealed bid process being handled by the commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer. The deadline for offers is Feb. 27.
The building was completed in 1820 as The Farmers Bank of Fredericksburg. During the Civil War, it was used by a number of Union Army leaders and was visited by President Abraham Lincoln before the Battle of Fredericksburg in 1862.
John Washington lived in the building for 24 years as a slave owned by the Ware family. Washington later wrote a memoir about his life as a slave.
The property includes two parcels totaling 0.541 acres and 22 parking spaces. The building itself is 6,410 square feet on two floors with a full basement. It features three private offices, two large boardrooms, a vault room, an employee lounge.
Jamie Scully and Wilson Greenlaw of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer are the exclusive sale representatives for the building.
