This Valentines Day will bring more than hearts and roses to the city of Richmond. There probably will be a few shovels around, too, on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. when Richmond holds a groundbreaking ceremony for a new $1million summer training camp for the Washington Redskins NFL football team.

Site work already has begun at the camp’s site off West Leigh Street behind the Science Museum of Virginia.  The facility is being built as part of an economic development deal between the city and Bon Secours Richmond Health System. Bon Secours agreed to be the major sponsor of the training camp. In exchange for $6.4 million in naming rights and lease fees, the city of Richmond will lease a former school site to Bon Secours for an expansion of its nearby St. Mary’s Hospital.

Officials, including Peter J. Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Virginia Health System, Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones and Gov. Bob McDonnell will be on hand Thursday for the ceremony, which will be held on Leigh Street at DMV Drive, behind the science museum.
