McLean-based Fortune 500 government contractor Booz Allen Hamilton has acquired Pennsylvania cybersecurity company Defy Security, it announced Tuesday.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and neither Booz Allen nor Defy Security immediately returned requests for comment. Booz Allen initially announced the deal in February, when it entered an agreement to acquire the cybersecurity company.
Founded in 2017, Defy Security sells cybersecurity products and services to large companies across several industries, including finance, health care, manufacturing and retail. The company is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and has an additional location in San Ramon, California.
Defy Security has about 100 employees, including cyber engineers, solution architects and salespeople.
Booz Allen said the acquisition will help grow its commercial cybersecurity business.
“Today’s AI-enabled threat environment moves at unprecedented speed,” Booz Allen Executive Vice President Andrew Turner, head of the company’s global commercial business, said in a statement. “Joined with Defy Security, we can help more enterprises around the world innovate ahead of pervasive cyber threats and protect their most critical assets.”
According to a Booz Allen news release, Defy Security will “initially operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Booz Allen,” though the company did not provide long-term plans.
“Booz Allen and Defy share a commitment to growth, collaboration and technical excellence,” Defy Security founder and CEO Justin Domachowski said in a statement. “We look forward [to] delivering tremendous value to customers together as we set a new standard for enterprise cybersecurity.”
Booz Allen has more than 80 locations and about 31,600 employees worldwide. It plans to relocate its headquarters from McLean to Reston in 2027.
